Just received confirmation that I will be speaking at the ALCA (Alabama Counseling Association) Annual conference in Montgomery, AL, in Nov 2015. I will be speaking at two sessions, one based on my first book (A Life Interrupted – the story of my battle with bullying and obsessive compulsive disorder) and a second one based on my recently published book (Father Figure – My Mission to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse). I am very excited about this conference especially because counselors have a key role in our society in maintaining and enhancing the emotional wellbeing of children and families.
My first presentation will allow participants to be able to;
- recognize severe anxiety disorders triggered by PTSD from bullying
- develop a thorough understanding of the way PTSD from bullying can dictate the development and progression of a mental disorder
- apply the knowledge gained from this presentation to assist individuals who might need help in overcoming mental health disorders of this nature
My second presentation will allow participants to:
- learn how to be effective in intervening and preventing situations that could lead to child sexual abuse
- develop strategies to work effectively with our systems in order to prevent child sexual abuse before it actually happens, through multidisciplinary collaboration
- assess therapeutic needs of children who are being sexually abused or are concerned about being sexually abused
