Jan 07, 2016

I am looking forward to my next speaking engagement scheduled for Jan 29, 2016 for a training event in San Antonio, TX. I will be speaking on the topic of “Overcoming the long term impact of bullying” at the NEISD (North East Independent School District) Safe & Drug Free Campus Contact Training. It is good to see that a lot of school systems around the country are including these discussions in their training programs.

This will be my second presentation within the last couple of months at a staff training event in Texas. I did a similar presentation in Austin, TX, in December 2015. Clearly, schools in Texas are paying more attention to impact of bullying and are including this as part of their training programs. I hope that most other states are either already doing this or are planning to do the same.

I remember well that when I was going through school, most staff members did not pay much attention to reports of bullying incidents. Teachers, administrators, counselors, social workers likely did not receive the training necessary to understand the possible serious longer term impacts of bullying. In my case, I was finally able to find a counselor who listened to me and was able to help, but even with that I ended up having to deal with a serious disorder triggered by bullying. I know there are many others who feel the same way, i.e., that they did not receive the support and assistance when they were being bullied.

Well, it’s good to see that we are finally focusing on this so the schools can be a safe environment for all children.
